Best All-Ages Venue AmplyFi Earnest rock stars, cynical politicians, self-absorbed athletes and maudlin telethon hosts alike often claim that they're doing it "for the kids," but the kids usually are much better off when they do it themselves. Case in point: Kota Wade, who didn't want to wait until she was old enough to drink to see bands play live, so she opened her own club, AmplyFi. Granted, the precociously talented, then-19-year-old rock singer had some help from her mom and dad (who pitched in mainly by selling tickets and running the sound board, respectively) last year when she made over her Melrose Avenue rehearsal room into a legitimate, live-music venue. It looks like a pop art '60s crash pad, decorated with lava lamps, gold records, mirrors and illuminated mannequins. Since AmplyFi is all ages, the club can't serve alcohol, but Wade makes up for it by booking an impressive variety of tunefully intelligent, rising new bands, most of whom have been overlooked by the other indie-rock clubs in town. It's easy to miss AmplyFi's barely marked entrance -- a nondescript green door in the alley behind Astroburger -- but the intimate room (with a capacity of 70 people) is worth the search. 5600 block of Melrose Avenue, Hlywd. amplyfi.com. -Falling James
VIA COMA (San Francisco, CA)
Dear Kota We just wanted to send you a genuine, heartfelt thank you for having us at your venue. It was one of the most welcoming and memorable shows we've had outside of our hometown. If you ever need a band for one of your shows that you feel would round out the bill, we'd love to be considered for it.
From the bottom of our hearts, once again, Kota, we thank you and your family. Without you, independent, unsigned, unheard artists would not have a place to play in a city that's notoriously difficult to break into. We hope that you enjoy the record.
Just wanted to thank you again for being so accommodating last night! Everyone had a great time and I'd say the show was an overall success.

Just wanted to again say THANK YOU to the entire AMPLYFi team for your help with last night's show. I have worked at and with several venues for many years and I am hard pressed to think of an initial experience as positive as the one myself and the bands experienced last night. Kudos to you.
Just wanted to drop a quick line to say thanks so much for having us out on Saturday! We had a blast all around- everyone was pleasant to work with, the venue, stage and sound are amazing and everyone that came out had a great time, including some new fans/friends we made. We will definitely have to work together again in the coming months!

WALLA, Los Angeles
Hey Kota and Team AMPLYFi!!!
Thank you for having WALLA at your super awesome venue, the ambiance of AMPLYFi was really cool and the band members really enjoyed playing there.
... a super underground, very awesome spot called Amplyfi. The location is a very cool one and if you are into underground music in any way I highly suggest you take the time to check it out. I drove down Melrose looking for this super secret location (dude- there is literally an alley, and a green door- just like it says on the website). Trust me when I say- this spot is going to be a place I frequent, if only to get the opportunity to listen to the most eclectic assortment of live music ever. Very down with this place and if you are into this sort of thing, you should definitely check it out.
